West-Tech Materials All-Stars: Spotlight on Laserage, an AMETEK Paragon Medical Company

July 21, 2025

From precision stent cutting to micron-scale ceramic drilling, few companies push the boundaries of medical laser manufacturing like Laserage, a division of AMETEK Paragon Medical. In this edition of our All-Stars Blog Series, we’re spotlighting their cutting-edge capabilities—and how our partnership helps bring this expertise directly to engineers, innovators, and procurement teams across the Western U.S.

We sat down with Dan Capp, Business Development Manager at Laserage, to learn more about what sets them apart and why our collaboration continues to drive value for the MedTech community.

Q&A with Dan Capp, Laserage

What core capabilities or technologies set your companyapart?

At our Waukegan facility, we specialize in advanced laser-based manufacturing technologies, including:
• Precision tube (stent) cutting
• Micro welding for medical assemblies
• Nitinol processing
• High-speed micro drilling in ceramic substrates

These precision processes are the foundation for many of today’s most advanced medical devices.

What markets or industries do you primarily serve?

We serve almost exclusively the medical device market, focusing on:
• Cardiovascular and peripheral vascular systems
• Structural heart
• Orthopedics
• Cardiac rhythm management
• Surgical and medical instruments

Is there a process or recent innovation you’re especially proud of?

We don’t manufacture products ourselves, our customers own the designs - but we’re proud of the technical breakthroughs we’ve made to support them.

Notably, our ability to drill micron-scale holes at high speed in both metal and ceramic materials is a standout. We’re also especially excited about combining Swiss CNC machining with precision laser tube cutting, which opens up new design options for our vascular device customers.

What challenges are your customers facing that you help solve?

Our customers count on us to help overcome:

• Consistent, high-quality manufacturing of complex medical devices
• Access to North American and nearshore production options
• Fast turnaround and speed to market

These are critical needs we’re equipped to meet every day.

What’s something people might not know about your company or team?

While turnover is a common challenge in today’s manufacturing environment, our operations team (the people responsible for building and inspecting product) brings over 1,000 years of combined laser processing experience. That kind of knowledge and stability translates directly to better outcomes for our customers.

Why is your partnership with West-Tech Materials important to you?

A significant amount of medical device innovation is happening at OEMs and startups based in the Western U.S. Because we don’t have a physical sales or manufacturing presence on the West Coast, our partnership with West-Tech Materials has been essential in identifying, supporting, and servicing those opportunities. You’re a true extension of our team.

What’s ahead for your company, any exciting updates, expansions, or goals?

We’re continuing to grow, with new equipment and expanded services already underway. Our goal is to deliver more value, more efficiently, to the customers who rely on us to bring their devices to life.
