At West-Tech Materials, we’re proud to partner with companies that not only deliver exceptional results, but also redefine what’s possible in manufacturing. For this All Stars spotlight, we sat down with the team at KMM Group to talk about their approach, their markets, and what makes their Boutique CMO™ model so unique.
KMM: "Have you ever been told your part can’t be made?
Not that it’s too expensive. Not that the volume’s too low. Just: ‘This can’t be done.’
We hear it more than you’d think. And we love it.”
KMM Group built its business around being the company that says yes. Not with false confidence, but with a unique blend of technical depth, a problem-solving culture, and a team of specialists who have worked in the trenches of ultra-precision manufacturing for decades.
But saying yes isn’t easy. And it certainly isn’t magic.
Q: What makes a “yes” possible?
A: It’s not about having the smartest person in the room. It’s about having a group of smart people — each one an expert in their niche — under the same roof and talking to each other.
You’ll hear us say that a Center of Excellence doesn’t just mean capability. It means commitment. Repeatable processes. Cross-functional teams who don’t just collaborate when it’s convenient, but because it’s expected.
We don’t rely on tribal knowledge or gut feel. We use a methodical approach to unlock solutions — a literal scientific process. When we teach someone how to solve a complex problem on the shop floor, we don’t stop at “getting the part to pass.” We show them how to build a process that can scale.
By establishing and documenting a process that is repeatable, we’re creating the recipe for success when volumes increase.
Q: What industries do you serve?
A: Most of our customers come from the MedTech, Aerospace, and High-Tech spaces. These are industries where the stakes are too high for guesswork, and the parts are often too complex for job shops.
MedTech in particular is our fastest-growing sector. We’ve aligned our services — including Guidewire Grinding, Swiss Screw Machining, Wire and Ram EDM, and Assembly — around high-tolerance, mid-volume projects that are often under served by large-scale manufacturers.
We’re not trying to be everything to everyone.
But we are everything to the clients who need what we do best.
And we love a challenge!
Q: What challenges do your customers face, and how do you help solve them?
A: Finding a second-source partner that actually makes sense.
Here’s a common problem: a supply chain manager wants to reduce risk by splitting volume between two suppliers. The incumbent is too big to care about the 20%. The rest of the AVL doesn’t have the technical depth. It’s a Catch-22.
We’ve heard this story so many times, we turned it into a strength. As a Boutique CMO™, we don’t need to win your whole project to care about your business. We’re structured to succeed with programs that are too complex or too “small” for the giants, but too important to fail.
We thrive on building relationships, no matter what the volume, and earning your business.
You get continuity. You get technical excellence. You get a partner who actually wants your 20%.
Q: KMM has been through a major transformation. What does the future look like?
A: Five years ago, we merged three companies and began our transformation. It hasn’t been easy. But today, we operate in a state-of-the-art, 100,000 sq/ft facility with capacity to grow 4x. We’ve added new value streams like cleanroom and assembly, and developed Centers of Excellence that position us to lead in core niches.
And we’re not done yet.
Our goal is to become the go-to Boutique CMO™ for MedTech innovators who need more than a vendor. They need a partner who can solve thehard problems, scale with them, and stay hungry.
We’re ready.
Q: Why do you view West-Tech Materials as a strategic ally?
A: West-Tech Materials knows how to match a supplier with the right MedTech OEM. In a way, when a MedTech supply chain manager or engineer talks to West-Tech, they’re already talking to us. They don’t just “represent” us — they understand us.
When they speak with a customer, they’re already thinking about our Centers of Excellence in grinding and machining. It’s not just about facilitating a conversation. It’s about speaking on behalf of two parties at once — the OEM’s intent and our capability — until they match.
Q: What would you like to say to the engineers and innovators reading this?
A: If you’ve designed something brilliant, and the answer you got back was “this can’t be done,” we’d like a shot at proving them wrong. Let’s collaborate and find a way to say yes.
